Bandoneon House

In the Bandoneon House, you have the opportunity to

  • Play/practise in your room at any time of day or night 

  • Intersperse your focussed practice with lovely walks/good food/Bandoneonist company

  • receive practice supervision

  • Take classes

  • Practise and/or make music together

  • Get new inspiration for your daily practice routine

  • Find a quiet and supportive place to prepare for your next concert tour

Newly developed as a concept, the Bandoneon House draws on my experience during the 4 years of studying the Indian Tabla. The Indian way of instrumental study greatly differs from western methods. Instead of having a lesson just once a week and beavering away on my own in the interim, I spent many days at my teacher's house, practising within earshot and under his generous supervision. Occasionally he'd pass by and give some useful hints and then I'd have ample time to integrate his advice into my playing. His house provided a supportive space to grow my skills.

Three times a week, all his students would meet and join in a  several hour long practica, where every level was catered for.

Bandoneon House Practicalities:

  • The Bandoneon House is open to all skill levels of players.

  • Make your stay as short or as long as it suits you.

  • During your stay, you will have a room where you can literally play your Bandoneon any time of the day or night, without disturbing anyone.

  • Please contact us, and together, we will devise a timetable to suit your needs.

  • If you wish, you can join in our meals, so you don't even have to worry about shopping or cooking.

Prices:

Accommodation: in line with our airbnb listing (but check timings with us before booking the accommodation!)

(optional) Lessons: £40/hour

(optional) Practica/light supervision: £20/hour

(optional) Food: £10 per meal

*This is a small-group immersion weekend (2- 5 participants):

LEVEL: 

  • The weekend aims to create an inclusive atmosphere, welcoming anybody who has recently started on their Bandoneon journey or who would like to consolidate the fundamentals. It is NOT necessary to be able to read sheet music for this weekend.

  • Are you a recent Beginner? Don't feel shy, get in touch - this weekend will be suitable! 


COSTS:

  • £160, including all group classes and Sunday lunch

OPTIONAL EXTRAS:

  • Optional private lessons with Ruth £35 per hour

BANDONEON FOR HIRE!

  • If you’d like to take part in the weekend but don’t have an instrument yet, we have one you can hire!

  • For the meals: Friday dinner is 'bring and share. Saturday, there's the option to go out for a meal together, and Sunday, Frank will cook lunch for us.

Zoom Bandoneon Meetup

Almost every Sunday at 14.00-15.00 Paris time, come and hang out with our Bandoneon Family online. It's FREE, all levels are welcome. We share our Bandoneon joys and sorrows and play some music together. Check dates in the calendar.

➜ We will use Mark Wyman's Big Tango Fake Book as our starting point. You can obtain this  here. It is useful to get this before the session if you'd like to play along with us! 

Since the first lockdown in March 2020, Ruth has held a Zoom meeting every Sunday, where Bandoneonists from all over the world meet to share their progress and be inspired.
I really look forward to these Sundays - we usually are between 5 - 20 Bandoneonists. We share a tune or two that we are currently working on, or we try out performing something we have practised, to a supportive group of listeners. We share our Bandoneon joys and sorrows and pick up useful tips and tricks for practise along the way. Sometimes we play a tune or two together. The atmosphere is relaxed and supportive. All levels are welcome!
By now it feels like a 'Bandoneon family' - despite the fact that we span several continents and time zones. Do come and join us! You can also just drop in to listen and look.
We have a Facebook group connected with these Sunday meetings, where we share further inspiration and connect with each other across continents and time zones. If you play Bandoneon, please feel free to join the group.

A Unique

Archive of videos, for study purposes

We're in the process of creating an extensive collection of videos to help with the study of A La Parrilla playing. 

The first block of videos contains a collection of A la Parrilla tunes, played by the great Maestro Orlando Dibelo, using Mark Wyman's Big Tango Fakebook as a starting point. Every video can be slowed down for learning purposes, and sections can be looped for repeated practice.
