Orlando Dibelo and Ruth invite you to

Parrilla a la Carte, November 2024

This is a unique opportunity to experience playing along with one of the greatest masters of A la Parrilla playing - don't miss it!

Across the next ten days, we will have 4 Zoom sessions, where maestro Orlando and I will play requests from the audience/participants. Bring your instrument to the session and play along with us (your microphone will be muted, so don't worry about 'wrong' notes!!!).

There will also be a bit of time to ask questions, and we might play some of the tunes slowly first, before playing at a danceable tempo.

Here's how it works...

I have chosen 4 dates, on different days and times of the day, to cater for everyone's availabilities. You can take part in as many or as few sessions as you like. You indicate which dates you are available and how many sessions you would like to partake in.

The sessions are not progressive, that is to say you can drop in on a later session, even if you have missed the previous ones. These sessions will NOT be recorded, so be there, or you'll miss it.

The dates and times (all Spanish/French/German time):

1) Saturday 23.11., 17.00
2) Monday 25.11., 20.00
3) Thursday 28.11., 20.00
4) Sunday 1.12.,10.00 (instead of the Bandoneon Meetup)

Alternatively, you can indicate to us if you need the individual PDF's for any of the sessions. We have special permission from Mark Wyman to share those with the participants.

Choose your favourite pieces from the menu below and email me with your choices. We will make a list of tunes from your suggestions and announce them ahead of time. Each session will have different pieces. Send your suggestions to ruth.rozelaar@gmail.com

Further below is a little video teaser - Orlando and Ruth played Palomita Blanca and El Flete for a Zoom meeting last year. The joy of playing A la Parrilla is that nothing is prearranged - just like it is in the dance!

Maestro Orlando Dibelo & Ruth Rozelaar

Milonga à la Carte

Come and enjoy a unique TANGO experience (no 2 nights the same!), in the company of Bandoneon Maestro Orlando Dibelo and his protégée, Ruth Rozelaar, where YOU get to choose the music that you want to dance to!

You request your favourite dance tunes from a  selection of 244 titles from the Tango Fakebook. Your choices will then get woven into tandas, which Orlando and Ruth will play for you LIVE,  A La Parrilla.

Don't know the names of your favourite tunes?~ Don't worry, others will choose for you, or you can tell us what type of music you like (intimate, expressive, rhythmical, lyrical, fast, slow etc.) and we'll choose  pieces that cater for your taste.

I promise, Maestro Dibelo will charm you with his infectious joy and phenomenal playing. I will do my best to hang onto his 'shirt tails'...

Below is the full menu of 244 songs. Find your favourite tunes prior to coming to dance!

(The full list will also be available on the night.....)

Do you find Live Music difficult to dance to?

Come and give this one a go! Maestro Orlando has many decades of experience as a Tango Musician. He has played in the classic Argentine Dance Orchestras that you know and love so much. Ruth has been a dancer and Tango teacher for a quarter of a century, and an obsessed Bandoneon student since 2018. Between them, they distill the essence of what makes a piece of music danceable.

About Orlando Dibelo

Orlando Dibelo is considered one of the most important and influential Argentine bandoneonists of his generation. He began studying bandoneon at the age of nine with Eduardo Carpini in Buenos Aires. The teachers Carlos García and Calisto Sallago completed his musical training. As a young man, he performed with Roberto Firpo Jr. with the Cuarteto de Tango de la Vieja Guardia. He also triumphed in the competition "Nace una estrella" of the Argentine television channel 13 with the famous bandoneonist Juan José Mossalini, with whom he played "Adios Nonino" in a bandoneon duet. Astor Piazzolla himself wrote a glowing review of their  performance of his famous tango, congratulating the young artists.
Throughout his extensive career, he has been prolific as an international tango performer. In Argentina, he tours both as a soloist and as a member of the prestigious José Basso Orchestra. He has performed with tango singers such as Amelita Baltar, María Graña, Jorge Casal, Chiqui Pereyra, Silvia del Rio, Alberto Podestá, Alfredo Beluzzi and Héctor de Rosas, and has been a regular guest on Argentine television channels 7, 9 and 11 in Buenos Aires.
In 2001 he moved to Spain, where he performed with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and was invited to join tango groups such as Rayuela Tango, Ibertango and Art Tango Ensemble, among others. He has performed frequently in music festivals in Spain as well as in Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Estonia. From 2003 to 2008 he was the musical director of the prestigious National Tango Festival in the city of Alcantarilla, Murcia. He was the founder and musical director of the tango quintet "Fueye".
He has made numerous recordings, interpreting both tango and popular Argentine music. Artists of the stature of Armando Manzanero and El Cabrero have requested his collaboration on their recordings. He was recently awarded the Cavaion d'Oro prize in Italy, in recognition of his professional career and his contribution to the international diffusion of tango. His musical career appears in the book "El Tango y sus protagonistas", written by Héctor Romay.
Orlando Dibelo combines performances with teaching, being invited to give master classes in workshops dedicated to tango.

About Ruth Rozelaar

Ruth Rozelaar has undergone a self-directed and intensive period of study since 2018, devoting 3 hours per day to Bandoneon practice, with the focus on playing A La Parrilla, for dancing.

In January 2023, she began studying with Maestro Dibelo.

"I am honoured to be touring with such a  grand maestro. Playing  alongside him, diving deep into the tunes that I know so well from dancing, is an indescribably delicious experience.  Just like dancers, we connect with each other through the music - every time it is new and exquisitely alive."
